Happy One Year Anniversary, Barbell Babes!

Happy One Year Anniversary, Barbell Babes!

A year ago, I couldn't imagine how much growth would happen to something that was once just an idea. According to Bloomberg, 8 out of 10 entrepreneurs who start businesses fail within the first 18 months, but that didn't stop me from trying. I'm thrilled to be celebrating one year of success in a community of strong women and men who support us.

If you don't already know the history behind Barbell Babes, the idea came to me while following different fitness inspirational groups. I found that they were only posting photos of "really ripped" women and realized there was a lack of diversity in inspiration across the web. Although a "ripped" body type is definitely achievable, those were unrealistic expectations not only for myself, but perhaps for many women out there. I believe that we as women should celebrate our lifting accomplishments no matter how we look.

At the time, my only intention was to inspire those around me, but little did I know that it would create a movement and inspire women all over the world. I've been honored to meet women who were former addicts, women who suffered from eating disorders and mothers of four who made time to fit working out in their schedules. Most importantly, all these women I've had the chance to meet share the same passion for had changed their lives through lifting weights.

There are many people I'd like to thank from the bottom of my heart. Without you, we most definitely wouldn't be where we are today. Thank you to anyone who has donated their time, money or support. More importantly, thank you for believing in my vision and believing in building this community. Big thanks to those babes who have allowed us to tell their heroic stories to inspire those around us. We are looking forward to growing, taking on more initiatives to support our community and spreading our love for lifting to those just like us, who didn't know where to start. My personal goal is no longer to inspire those around me, but rather to be inspired by all of you. Here's to many more years!
